The Diamond Sword

Rediscovering Meditation, The Forgotten Treasure of India

The Diamond Sword

Become natural, become ordinary; live in equanimity,

“IF WE WANT MANKIND TO BECOME HEALTHY; if we want the terrorism that is increasing everywhere and becoming more and more explosive and violent to end; if we want the flames of fire to turn into flowers, then The Diamond Swordthere is only one way. That way is called samadhi, enlightenment.
Become natural, become ordinary; live in equanimity, and do not remain unacquainted with the secret that is hidden within you. The moment you become acquainted with it, a great revolution will take place, the revolution which turns dirt into gold, which turns an ordinary man into a buddha, which picks you up from the ground and takes you to the heights of the stars in the sky.
I have moved around the world saying only this one thing, and have been amazed and astonished that people are not ready to hear it. People close their doors, countries close their doors, because what will happen then to their religions, to their religious scriptures? I know only one scripture. That is you.”  Osho

wereldwijde omzwervingen weer in Poona arriveerde.

Review of The Diamond Sword, English and Dutch/Nederlands

THE DIAMOND SWORD
, Rediscovering meditation – the forgotten treasure of India.
Osho shows us time and again, that it is so easy to takes things for granted. We do not realise what kind of incessant flow of gifts is just coming to us, every day, as the case is with this book.
It all seems so obvious, but it IS not.
Starting a holiday in completely void that can be filled with all sorts of trivial things, wil exhaust you soon and gives a sense of boredom. But entering a school holiday with three new Osho books is completely different.
The Diamond Sword is a totally new book, which had a later release. It is compiled from Osho’s responses to individual seekers and media people.
The lectures were given during Osho’s World Tour, when he arrived back in Pune after global wanderings.
I am surprised by the light that Osho in this book shines over the experience of death.
How different is this in the East, compared with that in the West!
And these various backgrounds you also see expressed in the different spiritual visions.
The Raising of Lazarus, for instance, one of the stories about Jesus, is considered as a miracle. Osho gives here his unique vision. He explains that this might be look something extraordinary, but it is not something which will be helpful for humanity. Lazarus should have been dead and Jesus raised himThe Diamond Sword from the dead. This means, that Lazarus at that time did not die, but later on it would still happen any way.
Lazarus’ family would ever be faced with his death anyway or to say it simply: we all die one day. What you therefore provide to mankind with this raising of the dead, whether it is historical or not, is postponement. But not any transformation of consciousness occurs.
Something totally different happens in a similar event with Buddha.
Many people know the story of the mustard seed.
A woman brings her dead child to Buddha and lays it to his feet. She wallows in her grief and begs Buddha to make the child alive again.
Buddha at first says nothing and just looks at the woman. He does not consider her request.
But he offers her an instruction. He tells her to go along the houses and to knock on every house. Then she has to ask each resident who opens the door for a mustard seed if no one has ever died in that house.
And what is the result after a long day tour along all the houses in the village until nightfall? Nihil. In every house once someone died and mostly several people.
Buddha’s approach includes no sugar coating, no reprieve. No, he triggers a transformation process. Because imagine the woman who at one door after another is informed that she will not get mustard seed, because there ever died a father, a daughter or uncle.
Slowly but surely the awareness starts arising how pure human death is.
The woman became aware that death belongs to life, the two are inseparable.
And this understanding surely will bring a humanity ahead.
All those who were around the woman
became positively infected by this view on death. And thereafter also the story had an effect on people who heard about the woman.
And so many centuries later this happening around Buddha and his response on it touches us again.
We learn to give a place to death, not to bury but to face it.

This magnificent designed book offers so much more.
What all you may read in it? Well, for example the following topics are discussed:

  • the Seeds to the Flowers: Creating the milieu
  • the Call of Your interiority
  • the Treasure of one’s Own Experience
  • Ambition: the Roots of Terrorism
  • The Light of Buddhahood
  • India: the Eternal Pilgrimage

These are all themes that are very contemporary and they stimulate awareness. So you may refresh yourself at Osho’s always unexpected perspectives on Existence. On the cover is pictured an endless series of waves, the waves start from the sand on the beach and they continue in the water: an infinite ocean of wisdom.
Very special in this book also is the utterance of Osho: “In my definition it is not necessary to become a mother to know motherhood.”
Motherhood is not dependent on having children. Mothering is about the value of love that resounds. And that is why motherhood is also present in a woman with no children which she can allow to grow and to flourish.
Many women will know this and experience recognition by this vision of Osho.
A joke, finally, from this book is the following.
A politician was on his election tour wanting to win votes.
He saw a woman who was walking with 6 children.
The politician kissed all six children and said to the woman: “Please think of me when you go voting. Your children are very sweet and nice too.”
The woman told that she is not the mother, but the nanny of the children.
“Well gosh!” The politician exclaimed, “I have kissed these children in vain.
They have running noses and a lot more. You have to do nowadays everything to just gather votes. You should told me earlier that you are just the nanny. And you are one of a kind: a nurse with 6 children with running noses! But just keep standing here. There will be more electable candidates. Let them all kiss those children. By the time everyone has come along, you will have no longer running noses by all this ‘kissing’. “

Nederlands Review van The Diamond Sword

Welnu, de volgende onderwerpen komen aan de orde: Ambition: the Roots of Terrorism, the Seeds of the Flowers: Creating the Milieu, the Call of Your Interiority, the Treasure of one’s Own Experience, India, the Eternal Pilgrimage, The Light of Buddha-hood.
“In my definition it is not necessary to become a mother to know motherhood.”

Grap over Moederschap
